Marcin Hałat – a violinist, improviser composer, described as an artist revealing a new world of the violin.

His work is a synergy of two musical worlds – of jazz and classical music – which constantly interpenetrate and correlate with each other, revealing an artist who cannot be categorized in any of them.

In his compositions, Marcin Hałat combines a vision of contemporary music with elements of jazz and improvised music.

The artist is invited to both classical music festivals and jazz and improvised music festivals, such as: L. van Beethoven Easter Festival; Violin Summit, which takes place as part of the Singer Festival; Jewish Culture Festival; Festival of Jazz Pianists in Kalisz; Copenhagen Jazz Festival; United Europe Jazz Festival; “Jazz nad Odrą [Jazz on the Oder]” Festival in Wrocław; “Leipziger Jazztage [Leipzig Jazz days]”; “Chopin in the City” Festival in Chicago.

In collaboration with Sinfonietta Cracovia, he performed at the festivals. He has recorded for such labels as Sony Classical, Dux, Tv Arte.

His discography comprises both albums with classical, improvised and original repertoire. Recently, he has premiered archival works by the Polish emigre artist Karol Rathaus for the DUX label: Karol Rathaus – Piano Trios / 2021 and Karol Rathaus – Chamber Works / 2022. Marcin is the leader of the trio “The Owl”, which he co-creates with Krzysztof Gradziuk and Maciej Garbowski. Their latest albums are “On the Way” and “Improcode” with a guest appearance by Pablo Helda.

In his artistic career, Marcin Hałat has received a number of scholarships, including the scholarships of the Ministry of Art and Higher Education, of the Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, and of Adam Mickiewicz Institute.

He is a doctor of arts, an active artist and educator. He lectures at the University of Silesia. Regularly gives concerts in Poland and abroad.
